Overview of Neonatal Palliative Care in the NZ Context

Karyn will share on her role within the Paediatric Palliative care service that provides direct care to infants, children and adolescents and their families and also provides a consultative service to clinicians nationally. This will include development of national paediatric palliative care and some potential options for moving this forward in the Neonatal setting along with an overview of some of the following:
• Pathways in neonatal palliative care
• Planning for care in hospital and community setting
• Symptom assessment and options for management strategies
• Difficulties in decision making in neonatal palliative care
• How to talk about and introduce the concept of palliative care
• Inclusion of a case(s) if there is time
• Care of the baby, if it dies, and what if it doesn’t
